DOTZ DD2.JZ – “Master Steering”

It’s the new power steering’s turn!

In this section of the DD2.JZ series, after some consideration of the alternatives in the last article, the implementation of the new custom-made power steering follows. It’s a labor-intensive day in the workshop, but the two technicians Daniel and Christian are in good spirits and already figured out a plan.

Master Steering

First, the two decide to accurately measure the steering input shafts. In order for the steering arms to be connected to the steering box, the input shaft of the BMW Z4 must be welded and secured to the steering box of the BMW E46.

Christian starts working on the lathe to manufacture a special metal bush, so Daniel can weld it as extra securing over the connection seam of the input shaft. The bush fits perfectly and is welded immediately.

In the next step, Daniel takes care of the dash pipe installation for the steering oil supply. These do not only look great, but they also have special material properties that guarantee increased longevity, unlike ordinary steering lines.

Finally, the two technicians put on the fan belt and vent the steering to finally complete a exhausting but successful day of work.
